When Col Purcell was shot down and taken POW he was on a Huey. He joked to the men in camp that if they ever rescued them and sent a Huey he would not go. He swore he would never get on another Huey. He was rescued but not by a Huey. Col. Purcell has been in many types of aircraft since his release from prison but this was his first ride in a Huey since being shot down. He rode on to the next leg in Augusta where his wife was waiting for him. Ironically, it was Augusta where he was reunited with his wife after being released from prison.
