The above painting is an early example of Aurence's memories of living at the monastery in Conyers, Ga. His fondest memories are of Moses, his family, and the mule Moses would sometimes work the land with. Though Moses was a master mason at the monastery, Aurence fondly recalls him working the land with the mule. Aurence can not remember if Moses worked the mule for the monastery or on his little patch of land, or both.
Aurence has created many paintings of the monastery over the years, from the monks baking bread to producing pottery to growing bonsai plants. The painting shown, long gone to a private collection, was one of his favorites.
